How to Dress for Snowshoeing
Snowshoeing at Wildwood Resort is an excellent way to enjoy a Minnesota Winter! But having the right winter gear is an important part of staying safe and having fun. The snowshoes should be lightweight, fit properly and intended for the terrain. Adjustable poles with baskets are important for balance. During cold weather exertion, layering is important to wick away sweat, and to keep you insulated and protected from snow and wind. Your inner layer should be of a wicking fabric. The middle layer on top should be an insulating layer of wool or fleece. The outer layer should be windproof and either water-resistant or waterproof depending on the climate. Insulated, water-proof boots are a must as are hat, gloves, and sunglasses or goggles. Carry a pack with water, snacks, trail map and other essentials. A cell phone is strongly suggested when hiking on winter trails.
